What is GortonEye

GortonEye is a new kind of public utility - a "community web site" aiming to provide local information for the area.

The web site is targeted at the area's citizens and visitors and is managed by Manchester Community Information Network which maintains and develops the site

Criteria for Sites to be included on GortonEye

  • All sites should contain the organisation name and contact details by phone or Email and respond to enquires with regard to it
  • Where sites contain information which could go out of date, they should indicate when the site was last updated
  • All sites should not contain racist or abusive language and should not conflict with the web admin team equal opportunities policy
  • Where the site contains information that may cause offence (as determined by the web admin team) the necessary controls should be in place to ensure that people have to agree to enter it
  • All sites should contain information relevant and useful to individuals and organisations within the area. This may include local and national sites
  • All sites meet or are working towards the web accessibility guidelines working group W3C at http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL  If the site does not meet these criteria they should be informed that they exist. Review will take place on a regular basis to ensure that changes have been made. If after three reviews changes have not been made sites will be taken off GortonEye
  • GortonEye is an independent web site which does not hold any particular religious or political views
  • The web admin team reserves the right not to include sites that it feels may cause offence or are overtly religious or political in nature

General Information

GortonEye endeavours to maintain a high standard of accuracy of information provided on the GortonEye site. However, we rely on information provided by the groups and organisations it links to and although we try to ensure the accuracy of the information we cannot guarantee that this can be achieved at all times. Inclusion of information relating to suppliers of services or products does not constitute a recommendation and users should therefore take all normal precautions.

Removal of a Site

The GortonEye web admin team will remove any details of any organisation or business from its site if it is shown to conflict with the above criteria, is abusing the benefits of the service or the information is out of date. Should this occur, as MCIN is facilitating the site we would appreciate you informing us at info@mcin.net in order that the appropriate action can be taken.

As MCIN is currently facilitating the site all reference to web admin policy and procedures refers to MCIN policies and procedures.
